The Lost Bookshop by Evie Woods

Have you ever wished for a little magic in your life?

I have—many times, both as a child and as an adult. Honestly, I could use a spell that cleans my house! I don’t recall a vanishing bookshop being something I ever imagined, but now that I’ve read this story, I wish I could visit and step into the charm within those walls.

This was my first time reading a novel by Evie Woods, and all I can say is: WOW. I experienced a whirlwind of emotions while reading—love, anger, excitement, and everything in between. The three main characters are beautifully flawed, and more than once, I wanted to scream at them. Speak up! Don’t do that! Tell him the truth!

Books with multiple viewpoints can sometimes lose me, but this one didn’t. The author did a magnificent job of keeping the reader engaged and seamlessly moving between characters. She weaves the story through each character’s perspective without confusion. Rather than feeling like I was staring at the messy backside of a tapestry, full of tangled threads, I saw the image unfolding, one stitch at a time.

It’s always hard to write a meaningful review without revealing too much, so I’ll just say this: the story throws a curveball you won’t see coming. At first, I was upset. I didn’t want anything else bad to happen to the characters I’d come to care about! And just as in real life, the journey isn’t always pretty. Yet, from the mess, growth emerges. So take heart! In the end, goodness wins.

For a few days, I lived inside the enchantment of The Lost Bookshop. Re-entering reality has been difficult.

P.S. I’m already hunting down Evie Woods’ other novels!
