Pour a cup of coffee, put on your comfiest pajamas, and curl up with this rom-com by Emily Henry. After hearing so much about her novels, I finally had the opportunity to read one of the three I have sitting in my TBR pile.
This is a relatively quick read. I am not typically a fast reader, but I completed this book in less than 4 days. The story was fun. Her writing flows in a way that draws you in and makes you want to finish the book in one sitting. With its friends-to-lovers vibe and a timeline that shifts between past and present, the novel keeps you engaged without ever feeling confusing. Only once or twice did I have to pause to make sure I knew which timeline I was in.
Harriet’s indecision and peacemaking attempts were super relatable. After having just returned from vacation in Montana, I now want to go live with Wyn and watch him build his furniture!
On a personal note, when I read romance I prefer angst and anticipation and this book has plenty. However, call me old fashioned but I prefer less detail than modern rom-coms. Think Pride and Prejudice! Still, it didn’t stop me from enjoying the story.
The ending left me hanging. Not in a bad way but in a “I want to know what happens next” way. Henry gives us an open-ended finish that lets each reader imagine their own conclusion.
The highlight of this book was the visual imagery. It was so detailed I was left wondering if a scene in my head was from a book I read or a movie! I swear I could see the actors and everything!
