Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets by J.K. Rowling

The second installment in the Harry Potter series, Chamber of Secrets, returns us to Hogwarts for another year of magic, mischief, and danger.

This is the book where we first meet Dobby the house elf, one of my favorite characters. Dobby literally appears out of thin air and will stop at nothing to keep Harry Potter safe. Despite his best efforts, hilarious yet sometimes downright dangerous, Harry finds his ride back to Hogwarts compromised and nearly doesn’t make it back!

The second year comes with a new teacher for the Dark Arts class. If you read book one, last year’s teacher, Professor Quirrell, was involved in some pretty dark arts and did not return. This year we meet Professor Lockhart. Charming and handsome, many (especially of the female sort) are entranced by his dazzling smile, while Harry, Ron, and his fellow staff members at the school see right through the act.

Together, Harry, Ron, and Hermione set out to uncover the truth behind the Chamber of Secrets—its hidden entrance, the monster within, and the culprit behind the attacks.

While dealing with all the mayhem surrounding the Chamber of Secrets, Harry encounters a new rival on the quidditch field, pushing Gryffindor to train harder than ever to defend their title.

Because of the large yet cozy and dark castle, the candlelit Halloween Feast, and the encroaching cold outside the stone walls, the fall and winter season always gets me in the mood for Harry Potter.

Join me as I re-read the entire series over the next few months, and watch the movies along the way! Next up for October: Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.

P.S. I need Mrs. Weasley to knit me one of her famous sweaters!

P.P.S. Which of the Harry Potter books is your favorite? Let me know in the comments below.
