Flying broomsticks, owls that deliver the mail, sky-high sports, and a touch of magic —Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone is a classic good-versus-evil tale wrapped in wonder and adventure.
Meet Harry Potter, the orphaned child living with a dreadful aunt and uncle who treat him more like a burden than family. Small for his age and constantly bullied by his spoiled cousin, he’s never known life to be any different, until one day, he discovers something about himself that changes everything.
Harry begins the story as a quiet, unassuming child who expects very little from life. But by the end of this book, he has transformed into a brave and confident boy. He finds a new school, a place where he truly belongs and is surrounded by loyal friends who see his worth. He discovers his talent for a new sport and a life filled with unending magical possibilities.
The bond formed between Harry, Ron, and Hermione is an unbreakable friendship. It feels real and nostalgic, reminding us of the connections many of us formed during our own school years.
Though originally written for preteens and teens, this book is just as enjoyable for adults. I first picked up the series at 19 after my younger brother couldn’t stop raving about it. I was never drawn to fantasy back then, but once I started reading, I couldn’t stop. Since then, I’ve introduced the series to my children, watched the films many times, and officially joined the ranks of Harry Potter fans. After all, who couldn’t use a little magic in their life?
The fall and winter season always gets me in the mood for Harry Potter so join me as I re-read the entire series over the next few months, and watch the movies along the way!
