The Three Brothers (Chapter 1)

Once upon a time, many years ago, there lived three brothers.

The oldest brother was a striking gentleman, with thick wavy gray hair, a tiny white beard on his pointy chin, and wise green eyes that seemed to peer straight into one’s soul—if one dared to meet his gaze.

He was often seen in a finely tailored tuxedo, made of the finest fabric from faraway England. Dashing as he was in such attire, one might mistakenly believe him to be headed to a grand ball or a charity gala. In truth, he was most likely found dozing in the sun on his favorite bench in the local park.

The middle brother, though not as outwardly striking, possessed a quiet, mysterious allure. He was shorter in stature and resembled the night sky with dark silky hair, narrowed quiet eyes that watched everything, and a stillness that made him blend into shadows.

He was so quiet, in fact, that many didn’t notice him at all—an advantage that kept him well-informed on the town’s gossip and social calendars.

The youngest brother, “the wild one” as his two older brothers commonly called him, was born with flaming red hair and bright round amber colored eyes that always appeared ready for adventure. Bursting with energy, he could hardly sit still, and when confined indoors, seemed to literally bounce off the walls. He avoided such spaces whenever he could.

He was frequently seen out in the fields running freely beneath the birds. The youngest brother was small and lithe, and might have been mistaken for a child except for his round belly, which he got from never turning down a snack. He loved food so much, he visited every diner in town and even wrote reviews in the local paper. His favorite meal? Whichever one he was eating!

Although these brothers appeared to have everything one might ever wish for, life had not always treated the three so kindly. You see, the three brothers were not related by blood but had, in fact, all been orphans at one time until the kind old lady and the gentle old man took them in and made them a family.
